swoon progress

I have finished 3 more blocks for my Swoon quilt, which brings me up to 4 made and 5 remaining.  These 3 blocks went very quickly, mostly due to the fact that I chain pieced everything that I possibly could.  Literally (yes, literally), if there were 2 pieces of fabric that could be sewn together without needing pressed first, I sewed them together.  Then I pressed everything I could, then chain pieced everything I could, etc, etc.  I hear that some people dislike chain piecing because it is boring / redundant / mind numbing, etc.  But I honestly love it.  I find it really soothing and calming, and I love the efficiency!

The other reason these 3 blocks went so fast was because the fabric prints were not directional.  Unfortunately, the remaining 5 blocks all include directional prints.  What was I thinking?!?!?!  Newbie quilting mistake right there!  I have never given a second thought to the direction of a print, but then again, this is my first time making a quilt from a pattern!  All my other quilts have been very simple patterns.  Lesson learned (I hope)!  I will be paying attention to the direction of a print from now on!

So, those next 5 blocks may take me a bit longer as I will be piecing each one individually and will have to lay out the block piece by piece so I can be sure the print stays in one direction.  Wish me luck!  I'm sure my seam ripper is going to get a workout at some point!

Sorry for the indoor pictures, but we have had windy days lately (30 mph) and I can not get good outside pictures!  Fortunately, my red bedroom walls are serving as a decent backdrop in the meantime.
