beige is better

I finished my first "real" block for my Swoon quilt!  I am really liking the new background fabric.

This isn't the best picture, but I finished the block at 10 last night and didn't want to wait until this morning to take a picture.  I don't know if it is just the different background fabric, or the fact that these two fabrics are my favorites of the line, but I'm liking this block much, much more.  (Plus, how nice that my bedroom walls are the perfect shade of red to match the fabrics!)  Hopefully the subsequent blocks turn out just as well.  One down, eight to go!

background fabric change

After feeling that the white background fabric for my Swoon practice block was just not quite right, I went to my LQS in search of a better background fabric...

I found this linen colored fabric (on the left) that matches the Vintage Modern fabric line perfectly!  The selvedge has absolutely no information on it, so I will have to check the end of the bolt the next time I am at the shop.  I bought enough fabric to make the quilt, so the selection is pretty much final, but I am in the process of making another block start to finish to make sure the fabrics are going to work well together.  I hope to have that block finished today or tomorrow to share with you.  After that, I will cut all my fabrics and start chain piecing the components of the blocks!  Should be pretty fast going after that (cross fingers & toes).

That's about all that is new in my sewing world.  The house remodel is just getting underway and I hope to find the time to share some photos and info in the next week or so!

swoon practice block

So I finished my Swoon practice block (using Vintage Modern fabrics from Bonnie & Camille for Moda).  But I'm just not sure I love it.  Is it too busy?  Too much pattern?  Not enough color contrast or value contrast?  I don't know what it is, but so far, I'm just not loving it....

The 2 fabrics I chose for the practice block are my 2 least favorite fabrics from the fat quarter bundle I have, so maybe that is the problem?  And I'm also not sure I'm sold on the white background fabric....

Hmmm.....

slowly coming back...

I'm still feeling sick (it gets worse in the late afternoon / early evening), but after 3 months of no sewing, I finally felt well enough to try to work on a quilt.  (Sorry for the Instagram photo, I was too lazy to get my camera out....)

I'm making the Swoon quilt pattern using Vintage Modern by Bonnie & Camille.  This quilt will be for my best friend from college & her husband for their wedding.  Hopefully I can get it done in time ~ I have until August.  I *think* I have finally decided on the fabric combinations, as well as which fabric will be the center & which will be the "outside".  I also cut the pieces to make a practice block using 2 fat quarters from my half bundle that I am not using in the actual quilt.  I always like to make a practice block - especially for a pattern like this, to make sure I know what I'm doing before I cut into my fat quarters.  My LQS is almost out of this fabric, so I need to be very careful in my cutting!  Hopefully I will have that practice block done soon....
